Lifeskills: Proactive vs Reactive

lifeskillsprovsreactive

Do you approach life as proactive or reactive?

Productive Life Skill: Proactive
Destructive Life Skill: Reactive

When we know who we are and we accept who we are- then we can proactively deal with the conflicts in our life.  Proactive people actively run their life, but reactive people allow life to run them.

If we are uncomfortable in our own skin, it causes us to deny our reality.  We try to become who we think we should become instead of accepting ourselves. Knowing and accepting our strengths and weaknesses helps us take responsibility for our life.  When we don’t accept ourselves, we avoid situations and make excuses for our actions.

10 Characteristics of Proactive People:

  1. seek truth
  2. accept and embrace truth even when it is painful or difficult
  3. keep the focus on solutions
  4. accept responsibility for themselves
  5. trust their instincts
  6. strive for clarity
  7. confidence to deal with conflicts
  8. don’t try to become someone they are not
  9. make conscious decisions
  10. maintain peace through difficult situations

10 Characteristics of Reactive People:

  1. fear truth
  2. run from truth
  3. refuse or accept to acknowledge truth
  4. keep the focus on the problem
  5. assign blame to others
  6. question and second guess their instincts
  7. live in confusion
  8. attempt to live up to other people’s expectations
  9. allow situations to make decisions for them
  10. experience extreme highs and lows

The Key:

The key to becoming a proactive vs reactive person is learning to take and accept responsibility for yourself and your life.

The Challenge:

Proactive people choose to run their life.  Reactive people choose to allow life to run them.  Which will you choose?
