Love 101 – Love Has Limits
Join us for the series – LOVE 101
This week’s message is titled: Love Has Limits
Limits = Boundaries
We can’t measure love by access or value. Limits helps protect and honor love.
Let’s take a look at the characteristics of love without limits and love with limits.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE WITHOUT LIMITS
1. We get bitter.
2. We get selfish.
3. We blame.
4. We are reactive.
5. We get irresponsible.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LOVE WITH LIMITS
1. Everyone does not get the same access.
You shall have no other gods before me
Exodus 20:3
2. You can say no and mean it.
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
James 1:6-8
3. You honor people.
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
4. You practice self-care.
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:37-40
5. Jesus set limits.
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Matthew 16:23
THE CHALLENGE:
What is your attitude toward limits? Where do you struggle setting limits?
